Review:
This is my second favourite book that we had to read in high school (my first being “Briar Rose” by Jane Yolen) and I suddenly had the urge to read it again.
I loved it just as much (maybe even more now that I didn’t have to write essays on it!). I loved the characters- they were so REAL, like they could live right next door to you.
I felt the book was well paced, had just the right amount of drama, comedy and even action, and made you feel for this poor family.
I especially loved the relationship between Emma and Nicola- a truly realistic sister/sister relationship.
This is a book that I could read several times a year and not get sick of.
The only thing I would have liked to be different was to see a lot more of the aftermath- what happened after the main event (I don’t want to spoil it) and how they moved on with their lives.
Overall, a great book that kept me reading late into the night (even though I knew what was going to happen).
